Week of Mar. 30 - Apr. 3
Language Arts
Literature: We are still working on poetry. This week I would like students to review the poems and look for a rhyming scheme. At our level we are looking at end rhymes. One of the best examples is The Sneetches by Dr. Suess. A rhyming scheme is typically labeled with letters. See below:
Twinkle, twinkle little star A
How I wonder what you are A
Up above the world so high B
Like a diamond in the sky. B
Star and are both rhyme with each other and so each line is labeled with an "A", then the rhyme changes with the words high and sky. So, those lines are labeled with a "B". This makes the rhyming scheme AABB. The song also demonstrates an end rhyme. Notice that the words at the end of each line rhymes with the previous lines last word. Then the third line will switch perhaps to another pair of lines in which the last two words rhyme or the rhyming scheme may repeat itself and go back to an end sound of 'ar'.
The other thing you need to do is find three poems that have similes, metaphors, or personification examples in them. Find three examples of each, give the poem name, record the lines down, and name the figure of speech exemplified in the blog area.
Math:
We are working on Unit A Topic 2
You have part 2-1, part 2-2, part 2-3 to accomplish this week. These topics are a review of the properties. I found in the homework that some of you still didn't understand them all yet, especially associative. People were moving the terms around and that is commutative property. So, take a look at the topics and the associated videos.
Science - To be announced
Social Studies - To be announced
Week of March 23 - 27
Language Arts
Literature: Poems are posted on the language arts page, use the more button and choose it off the drop menu.
Grammar: Delaying for a bit to see how this first week goes.
Spelling: Les. 26 - See main spelling page for directions on weekly assignments.
Math - Working on creating expressions or equations based on written words.
Digits is what we need to use now to continue math lessons. I have assigned a whole topic. This is what a student would need to complete in one day. The videos are short and have problems to practice a skill at the end of the video. I recommend that students use a regular notebook to do the sample problems in. Don't forget the actual math assignment with practice problems allows students to get help and even try again. The educational links page has the link to go directly to the login site for digits. I'll wait a couple of days before I assign another topic.
Science - The Human Body - The circulatory system
Check out the blog page for instructions on what to check out and comment on.
Social Studies - Ancient China
Check out the blog page for instructions on what to go investigate and comment on.
