This page will contain links to the various spelling lessons studied throughout the year for Mrs. Jarvis's class. These words are taken from a spelling workbook for sixth grade called "Building Spelling Skills, Grade 6", published by Evan-Moor. (I will be working on trying to make PDF pages of the worksheets and then posting them to the corresponding lesson page.)
Mrs. Jarvis's class will do the following activities every week, (Mr. Hunter's class will have different assignments):
Monday - Usually get a page to write words 2 x's each and each dictation sentence should be written 2 x's as well.
Tuesday - Write each word and a short definition.
Wednesday - Write each word and either a synonym, antonym, or related word. (I.E. the word chicken. A synonym would be fowl, an antonym might be a non-living object, or other class of animal, and related words might be wings, feathers, etc.)
Thursday - Write a sentence using each spelling word one at a time. Students will need to write the sentence in such a way that the context helps someone else know what the word means.
Friday - an adult or older sibling should give the spelling test and check it using the list for that lesson linked below.
